Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui (one of my favourite choreographers) designed the fight sequences of this beautiful performance directed by Daniel Askill.
Shot in the Arabian desert with a haunting backdrop of the Burj Khalifa, Universal Machine is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a gifted young girl must find a way to understand and overcome a violent encounter with a life-like android. View on Vimeo.
The Japanese dancer Tzuki Kozuki is the dancer behind the CGI android, while the amazing Evnika Sadvakassova is an actual boxer who won a Guiness World Record in 2018 for “the most full contact punch strikes by a female” (at age 11).
